Medical student held for attack on woman he ‘tried to rape’

A MEDICAL student from Nigeria who has earned a reputation of getting too frisky when drunk was arrested after an attempted rape of another student.

The victim told Abellana Police Station that at 3:20 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2020, that she went out of her boarding house in Sambag 1 to buy food when the suspect grabbed her.

He covered her mouth and dragged her to a restroom. He allegedly punched her in the stomach and started choking her while trying to kiss her on the lips and groping her.

The suspect stopped only after residents of a nearby boarding house were awakened by the commotion and tried to find out what was happening. The suspect ran. He was later identified as Soky Odmgbe, a 22-year-old medical student from Onitsha, Nigera, and temporarily residing in B. Aranas extension in Duljo, Fatima.

Police Major Elisandro Quijano, chief of Abellana Police Station, said they conducted a follow-up operation and nabbed the suspect outside his university at 2 p.m. of the same day.

The suspect was reportedly drunk when he tried to rape the victim. Quijano said this is the second incident involving the suspect and a sexual complaint.

Last year, Quijano said the suspect was jailed after a student complained that he groped her chest.

“He got detained before because he turns into a maniac when he gets drunk. But he got out because he was forgiven and no case was filed,” Quijano said in Cebuano.

However, in this latest incident, the victim is willing to file a case. The suspect denied the charges but the victim identified him as the one who tried to rape her. (AYB)
